Paul Krismer

Within a workers’ compensation system, Paul excelled in multi-faceted senior management roles.

As an Executive Account Manager and team lead, Paul served as a consultant to high risk and high claims volume employers and industries, introducing innovative and powerful interventions that reduced injuries, deaths and insurance premiums.

Paul has led groups of more than 200 professional disability management staff.

Early in his career, he spearheaded a total reform of underwriting systems at WorkSafeBC, resulting in the creation of a pricing model that directly reflects safety outcomes.

Few leaders have as much, and as varied, experience in the field of workers’ compensation as Paul does.

Now a trainer and public speaker, Paul blends his expertise in safety and positive psychology. With energetic and engaging presentations, he shows leaders in industrial workplaces how to supercharge their safety program with a new safety culture.

Paul’s presentations are packed with useful information and practical tools based on the science of positive emotions. His teaching is powerful and effective. Students walk away not only inspired, but with the tools they need to immediately implement positive change.

Paul is a proud member of the International Positive Psychology Association and the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers.

John Bulcock

John is an executive safety leader with 42 years experience overseeing operations in the Coastal Forest Industry of British Columbia—some of the most hazardous industrial conditions found anywhere.

Starting from entry-level hands-on positions, John worked his way up to executive roles. He has seen firsthand how breakdowns lead to injuries, tragic deaths and devastating financial consequences. These formative experiences set John on a path of safety leadership that culminated in leading the safety department at the largest Integrated Forest Company on the North American Coast. His team had health and safety oversight of 2,000 company employees and 750 contract employees in both sawmill manufacturing and coastal forest harvesting operations.

Nothing speaks more clearly about John’s success than the company’s combined Medical Incident Rate being reduced from 10 to below 2 over a period of 7 years. His team’s work remains highly regarded for its sophistication and results-driven approach.

John is an authority on serious incident investigations, including leading team inquiries into fatal workplace events. He is an expert in supervisory responsibilities and assessing risk.

John’s unique perspective and depth of experience powerfully sets him apart from other safety leaders. As a values-based safety expert, John believes in helping managers and supervisors learn how to trust their knowledge and instincts when making day-to-day and strategic decisions. This is critical to safety success. John is a realist. His approach is no nonsense; just business—the serious business of safe and successful organizations!

Marna Johns, Vancouver Island Correctional Center

. . .  a  high energy and positive training session. He entered a room of a somewhat skeptical group of professionals and was able to keep them engaged and participative throughout the session.  He is able to combine theoretical knowledge, storytelling and audience participation in his presentation. I highly recommend him.

Keivan Mehrtabar, Diacon

This was one of the best presentations I have ever been to.  So powerful and effective.

Dawn Miles, View Royal Municipality

As a speaker Paul was inspiring. Just right . . . not pushy or contrived, rather he was 100% committed to his mission. It was an offering, take it or leave it. Great delivery. Great message.

Susan Sproule, Forest Safety Council

Paul provided a window into a necessary understanding of human behavior that will benefit all who attend his talks. His easy-going style of delivery allows everyone to connect not only with the material, but also with him.

Aimee Arsenault, Tridon Communications

Paul presented at the Western Safety Conference. The scientific perspective was an interesting approach to the concept of individual happiness. The presentation was engaging and informative.

Eli Baker, Victoria Hospice

Paul Krismer presented an entertaining, informative, and thought-provoking presentation on positive psychology for the staff at Victoria Hospice. Feedback from the talk was very positive and we look forward to bringing him back at some point in the future for other presentations.

VICKI GILL, DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL DEFENCE
